Why We're Different (in a good way)
MISSION STATEMENT: Marvel Champions strives to proved a best-of-class system for the expressed interest of hosting text-based roleplays. This is a passion project where the interest is not to make money, but to ensure the continuation of a much beloved pastime - participating in the shared experience of storytelling through the participation of interactive multi-contributor compiled stories (posting) centering around the idea of characters with rediculous names running around in the most embaracing getups spouting the most innane gibberish about the most absurd things possible all in an effort to stave off the end of the world from the lastest nut twist with a low hanging ballsack to turn of the supervillain turnpike and threaten your local Dairy Queen. It's a silly passtime and we love it.
To that end, we have spent a great amount of time and effort in developing the OMMMs which stands for One Million Monkeys Marching System, deriving it's name from the Infinite Monkey Theorem, which stated that if you placed a thousand monkeys at a thousand typewriters you would eventually generate the complete works Shakespear. We don't know how true that statement is, but if you consider how most sites operate, the constant re-imputing of data, and then editing all instances of that data (manually), you're opening yourself up to a lot of possiblities for faulty conflicting data, typoes, and ever increasing wastes of time requring more people to maintain a site as more people join which at somepoint will likely exhaust all those involved due to the size and complexity of the workload and the frustration of the tasks invovled. Enter the OMMMs, here we have one monkey (the site software) which maintains all instances of your data. What that means is that if you apply for a character named "Bob Belcher", the character Bob Belcher will automatially have a starting application initialized, their reserves, faceclaims, and all other necessary actions initialized. If you add a faceclaim to his application, then the faceclaims will automatically place a reserve on that faceclaim. If approved, the faceclaim will be locked for the character of "Bob Belcher". If you write a post and have tagged "Bob Belcher" in it prior, all future posts will automatically tag "Bob Belcher" so you don't have to constant rewrite the "Bob Belcher" tag. And if you tend to tag "Bob Belcher" a lot, then the character of "Bob Belcher" will automatically appear in your favorites so you can just click a button.
Life is hard, we want to make fantasy easy.
Below you will find an alphabetized list that is updated quarterly of site features, many of which are unique to Marvel Champions

CHRONO BACKUPS (Automatic)
A precauctionary step, MCu has embraced the 777 principal for backing up all site data including images. This means that every hour, we back up the entire site, on any given day, that we generate a full backup for every day for the last rolling seven days, that we maintain a comprehensive backup for each week of the seven weeks, that we maintain a comprehensive backup for each of the last seven months, and finally, a master backup for each yeah containing all site data. We do this incase of any unforeseeable problems which might emerge. We also maintain off server backups in hardcopy solidstate encrypted media to protect and allow for the retrevial of data in the event of a catastrophic emergency.
What that means is that we are in this for the long, secured hall.
DATAMINE BLOCKING
As we own our own and maintain our own servers, there is no datamining at play doing on in the background here. Big Brother is not welcomed here, and we actively work to halt any and all invasive datamining operations from penetrating our systems to protect your privacy and ours.
What that means is that what you do here, stays here — what you do here is your business and only your business alone.
HYPERTEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL SECURE (https)
HTTPS is an extension of the HTTP Protocol set. It is used for secure communication over a computer networks, and is widely used on the internet as an emerging standard allowing users to easy identificy malicious sites filled with mallware, viruses, or are operating with dubious intent.
The principal motivations for HTTPS are authentication of the accessed website, and protection of the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data while in transit. It protects against man-in-the-middle attacks, and the bidirectional encryption of communications between a client and server protects the communications against eavesdropping and tampering.
What that means is that you and your data are safe here.
INTELLIGENT CONTENT PLACEMENT
MCu's pages are designed to take into account the type of device you are viewing a page with in a coherent manner so that the mobile view near-seemlessly resembles the website layout and vice-versa, but the very content of the site takes you yourself into account interms of what is or is not displayed. If for instance you are logged into the MCu, you don't need the discord link as the only way to get a confirmation code is too join our discord, hence the discord link is no longer needed and thus when you are logged in, you will not longer see it. Likewise certain parts of the sites welcome page, the Daily Bugle, will no longer appear, thus allowing for a cleaner, more focused, less-cluttered layout and more visible data; It's easier to find what your looking for when only that which you need is present. Less really can be more.
INTUITIVE NAVIGATION
MCu has been intentionally designed on a point-to-point navigation system allowing users to get from any point to any point with a single click rather than having to click through several pages to get to your chosen destination.
NoCAPTCHA
MCu has embraced the use of NoCAPTCHA identification to eliminate the need to click on a button stating something to the effect that you are a human and not a bot. The benefit of this is that it screens out spam bots more efficiently than the old ReCAPTCHA tech used by most sites still and it eliminates the need for you to click one more tedious button.
NO CODE POSTING
A precauctionary step, MCu allows only for the most minimal of styling of user content, and only through our own proprietary text editors. This allows us to strip out any malicious code that might be lurking in a user posting such as mallware or hostageware.
What this means is that your, your devices, and your data are safe here.
PASSWORD RECOVERY
Using a content identification system, we allow for the password recovery by the user without the need to reset the password if the user wishes to retain their original password in cases where they had forgotten their password.
IMAGE COMPRESSION
MCu has embraced webP compression and algorythms, the benefit of which being that it decresses the size of content (web page) by 83% on average, making the site load faster and reducing user and site bandwidth.
TRAIT LIBRARIES (interactive)
There are many aspects of writing a character application which can be very daunting, here at MCu, we recognize this and because our goal is to standarize all write ups so they are easier to read and understand because writeups are not so much creative expressions as they are technical documents the govern what your character can and can not do, we have created several interactive trait libraries which not only list hundreds of powers, skills, abilties, merits and character flaws, they can also be instantly added to your character with a single button click. You can then go and tailer these pre-customized descriptions to your character.
Libraries exist for Character Equipment, Flaws, Merits, Powers, Resources, amd Skills at this time; All of them are continuous being added too and improved based on member feedback.
What that means is that with a click of a button you can automatically add a base, pre-written base trait description which you can then tailor to your character.
