SCENE SET »  The estate which was now the Xavier Institute had been built by the great industrial barons of the early 1800s during the industrial revolution, like the baron, the estate had fallen to disrepair, both victims of the war fought between of Andrew Carnegie and John Rockerfeller; The Xavier's purchased the estate in the late 1800s and restored it to it's former glory, adding electrical and modern plumming necessities to the estate. Then in the late 20th century, Charles Xavier took the estate over and modernized it futher, expanding many of the estates offering with the intent of making it a school for the gifted.

Ulysses » For so large a facility, Ulysses Cain felt that it was unnecessarily large for the current inhabitants and staffed far above the school's needs. He'd come to the kitchen, which was larger then any restaurant kitchen he'd ever washed dishes in and marveled, both at it's size and it's ample amenities; He couldn't image a cook who would give their left nut for such a facility. The cook, and her staff were currently away, they only prepared a morning breakfast and then a late lunch which for some passed as an early supper. Leftovers were stocked in the fridge for stragglers and guests.

Ulysses had come for a cup of tea. Currently he was searching the kitchen for a teabag. His leg was in a gravity boot, one of his arms in a sling, and there wasn't a visible part of his body with out either some bandages or bruises, in most cases both.

He was thankful to be here.

Ash » Ash had only been at the school a few weeks now, he was Sixteen in an unfamiliar surrounding & still traumatised by the whole episode what led to him being brought here. He deep blue eyes had been gazing aimlessly at the kitchens wall. It had been one of the few times he'd left his room since being here, his room was in need of change; It wasn't up to his liking, firstly the bed was on the wrong side of the room for him, his window was too big & blinds just weren't enough to block out the light of day.

Here he was, criticising again; Some things just didn't change. That's when his attention was brought back to the here & now, when some other stranger, a fellow student presumably had entered. He looked like he'd been hit by a bus or something, Ash wasn't one to pry but curiosity got the better of him. "Oh, you look like you've been through the wars. Did you fall down the large grand staircase? It is quite a bit over the top large, I wouldn't have installed something so richly." He spoke in a slightly different accent to that of America, his Canadian twang coming through.

Ulysses » Appearing to be slightly startled by the Canadian, Ulysses reached out for the large granite countertop of the industrial kitchen's kitchen island to steady himself. Drawing a deep breath, he gave a half-turn of his head in the long's direction. His expression appeared at first to be a blank canvas, then a moment's later a friendly smile began to tug at the sides of his lips. "Oh, Hello, you gave me something of a start for a moment I thought I was alone... in this large old semi-gothic mansion everyone seems to call home here." Finishing his words, he smiled a nervous smile and tipped his head toward Ash.

"I've been wandering the halls for what feels like an hour now trying to find this place and haven't seen nary a soul.... I was... attacked.. Some guys beat me down in an alleyway with a baseball bat." Ulysses began to explain, " I'm very lucky that Piotr came by when he did. I'd probably be dead if it wasn't for that massive hunk of Russian." His tone was one of obvious gratitude.

"And you are....?"

Ash » Ash half jumped himself in reaction to the other's startled reaction. His cheeks immediately flushed red & a tingling sensation pricked at his cheeks letting him know he had probably gone red. "Yeah, it's pretty big... Too big perhaps." He sighed, tapping a finger over the granite counter.

Ash wasn't too convinced of the story he'd given him, in fact he was pretty sure he'd overheard a conversation about Beast subduing Ulysses. For what, Ash didn't know but his facial expression definitely showed he hadn't bought the explanation. "Hmm... I'm Brenton, or Brent.... If you prefer, I'm new here."

Ulysses » "Brenton... as in a Brenton Poet? I know of someone named Brenton Augustine Poet, but you are most definately not he..." Ulysses replied with a half-heart attempt of mirth in his voice. Given the injuries he was sporting, that he could assert even a half-hearted tone was to be respected. As for having been subdued by the Hank McCoy, Ulysses had only met him when he'd arrived here at the Institute. McCoy, the school's acting doctor had treated his wounds. And while there descrepencies about Ulysses, nothing he had said was either untrue or a descrepency.

Ulysses eyes were draw to the boy's finger, tapping on the countertop not unlike a certain Raven at a door. Ulysses thought simply that, nothing more. "Well. It's a pleasure to met you Brent... I take it that you are new here as well, yes? From the way you speak, it sounds like perhaps you are also attempting to get use to this place. It's like a huge mausoleum, just with, you know, less people, but way way more space."

Ash » He smiled at Ulysses comment about another Brenton, though he didn't actually know the said person but he didn't want to make an already awkward new meeting any more awkward than it already was. He took another look up at the ceiling & walls around them which seemed to stretch out way too much. "Yes, it's too big for me. Maybe it will grow on me though." Brenton chimed. "I didn't have much choice but to come here, due to unforeseen circumstances... Which ended up in the death of some jerk jock from my school." He sighed, a sinking feeling in his gut from the guilt & shame of what happened.

"Jerk but still just a person like me, he didn't deserve to die but it was out of my control." He was almost fixated on the visions going through his mind, not really taking it in that he was actually sharing all of this out loud to a stranger.

Ulysses » Ulysses's head pulled ever so slightly back, his neck stiffened, just as his eyes widened so as to taken in the immensity of what Ash had just shared with him. He, Ulysses, was not accostumed to being shocked or surprised, he was after all and for lack of a better word, a precog. But this, this wasn't the future, this was the past, and Ulysses had not prepared for this conversation - he was pleasantly surprised.

He tried not to smile, he wanted to, but in the end he did not.

Taming his face, Ulysses centered himself, a trait he had well mastered within himself for some time now. He bowed his head forward slightly, his neck relaxed, and his eyes closed momentarily in sympathy as he slowly nodded once or thrice. "That sounds.. like you're still processing a lot of things."

Turning his attention momentarily back to the stove, Ulysses made sure that the kettle was squarely centered on the burner as he waited for it to boil. As he did this, he continued, "I've noticed, that in my short time being here, there is a common theme which runs thorought this school. Sorrow and circumstance. It sounds like you have your feet firmly rooted in both. It must be difficult."

Turning back toward Ash, he continued, stating "To be responsible for having taken a life so early in your life. Am I correct in assuming that you are responsible for the death of... whomever." Such an unexpectedly heavily conversation thought Ulysses, he'd half expected to be chatting with Colossus here in the kitchen damn this place for being so large, it probably had several kitchens.

Ash » "Well yes, It was down to me he died. I caused the Earth to shake, open up & swallow him whole." He gave a bemused expression as he spoke, as if it sounded so unfamiliar & strange to him still, to think that anyone, let alone he could do something so out of this world. Ash finally rose his brows a little & looked straight to Ulysses with a slightly more positive expression though it was forced, he was probably still in shock. "Pretty strange to even say it, maybe even harder to hear someone saying it. This is all very new to me." He shrugged.

"But I've been reassured It wasn't my fault & I couldn't have ever predicted such a thing would happen." Ash was almost trying to convince himself he was innocent, repeating the very words Xavier had said to him earlier on. "But... Knowing you're responsible for taking someone's life, whether you had control over it or not is still a lot to burden on your shoulders right? Now here I am, in a different country so far away from my family back in Canada."
