Don't Piss Off the Lunch Lady

Don't Piss Off the Lunch Lady (#TiD-44) unknown

SCENE SET »  Controlled chaos reigned. Students were coming and going. Some were getting food, others had brought their food with them. There was some kind of sociology study waiting to happen concerning the ways that the students naturally fell into cliques at separate tables.

It offered an odd kind of comfort, though. This was the same scene in Brooklyn as in Manhattan as in Ottumwa, Iowa. That consistency, both in the institutionally neutral appearance of the space and the predatory danger of drifting too close to the 'wrong' tables, help to both terrify and ground most of the students who ventured in here.

Welcome to the school cafeteria!

Wiccan » Standing in the lunch line, Billy Kaplan took one step, rolled his eyes, then took another step, and so on and so forth as he slowly inched his way to counter where all sorts of 'culinary delights' awaited. The food actually wasn't half bad, the lunch ladies at this particular school actually cared about the students and their craft and did some pretty amazing things. And since Billy's powers had begun to surface, the lunch ladies had really started to pull of some real miracles with what they had to work with. The ladies themselves, while taking full credit for the fruits of their labor would only admit to themselves in private how baffled they were by what was happening and might have said said something if not for fear of jinxing the situation.

Billy Kaplan took one step, rolled his eyes, then took another step, and so on and so forth as he slowly inched his way forth.

And as he did so, he looked down at his MotoRAZR, wishing it were an iPhone as he reviewed his notes for his next class, world history. Billy loved history. Love it. History was awesome. A little lax on the whole wizards thing thought, of which he clearly was one. Still he loved history, particularly the older histories of Europe and Asia. Fascinating.

Billy Kaplan took one step, rolled his eyes, then took another step, and so on and so forth as he slowly inched his way forth and returned his attention to the screen of his phone.

Mimic » Calvin was having another bad day; it started with his father being his normal over protective self and Cal never understood why he was like that or why he was so secretive about his experiments or why he gave Cal injections every morning. He was told he had a blood disorder but Cal had had blood drawn by the free clinic and they told him his blood was normal.

He was going to play this afternoon and try out for the football team and not tell his dad. He was 6'2" and stronger and faster than most of the guys on the team so he thought might as well try out and tell his dad later.

He bumped into a smaller guy who was in the line in front of him and he was about to tell him off when he looked at his brown eyes and just felt a bit unsure of how to act. He normally would have yelled at a scrawny underclassman but something in him just told him to be nice.

"Hey, watch it. I might have crushed you," Calvin said recouping his senses and trying to act all tough but he just patted the kid on the shoulder and told him,"Avoid the meatloaf...its not actually meat..." Calvin said getting a stern look from the lunch lady who waved a spatula with the offending piece of meat.

Calvin grabbed two bananas, a premade sandwich and a gelatin cup and four cartons of milk. He was hungry but in a hurry so he only took half what he normally ate.

"Come on buddy...we only have 30 minutes for lunch...stop starring...what are you g..." Calvin almost said gay but it stuck in his mouth when he thought of how he would feel if anyone found out he was gay. He had kept that a secret for so long and never told a soul but this scrawny kid with the brown eyes was very cute. He didn't want to be a jerk to him.

"Just hurry up...brown eyes" Calvin said in a stupid comment about his eyes.

Chimaera » Teddy looked up, trying to figure out what the hold up was. Sure, his tray was already more full than most average people would eat in a couple of lunches, but he burned energy in ways most of them would never imagine. When he looked around the guy in front of him, he saw the problem. William.

'Of course,' he thought as he rolled his eyes. The jerk couldn't just be an ass to him in the morning and then leave him alone. No, he had to screw up lunch for him, too. It was the one period he was pretty sure he wasn't going to be struggling to either figure out what was going on or fighting to stay awake. And...we're he and the guy in front of him flirting?

Teddy had been out as long as he could remember it being an issue. He didn't advertise it, though. He'd dated a few guys, so he could read the body language.

"Perfect," he muttered under his breath. Louder he said, "could the rest of us get some lunch please?"

He wasn't about to start busting on guys doing their thing, though Teddy wasn't sure the guy in front of him knew what he was getting into with William, but...meatloaf. Hello!

Wiccan » Was someone flirting with Billy? Probably not given that he'd barely graduated from the 'swirlie club' to the 'nobodies league'. And while many peope a lot fo student lamented a general lack of popularity, Billy was happy given his prior status of being a serious contender for the most bullied student in the school. But since the Kelsler incident and the 'event' which had left him a 'slower' then he use to be, Billy was given a bit of space these days for fear of karmic retribution; Clearly someone somewhere 'up there' liked him.

Regardless, Billy took several more steps forward and then a big one as something 'big' bumped into. Truning, Billy saw a broad chest before his eyes, he quickly glanced up and met the eyes of some one else. Billy replied with a very timid meek response, one he had honed over two years of school, bullying that is. "Sorry," Billy said to the person who had been ahead of him in line, then turned back to the 'bumper' and smiled, meekly. "S'kay. You didn't step on me..." And by the looks of this guy, odds where that yes he could have probably crushed Billy, or at least put a world of hurt on him. Or he could have if not for the recent magicks Billy had begun to master. Still, this guy was nothing short of big, and you can't exactly go around electrocuting everyone now can you? Nope. It's not the superhero thing to do.

And Billy was a superhero, or at least so he thought.

Billy was warned to avoide the meatloaf, but Billy liked the meatloaf. It was very tomatoe and he liked that. And it came with smashed garlic potatoes and string beans which he also liked. And an apple cobbler, which he really liked. "... but i like the meatloaf..." Billy said quietly under his breathe as the big guy sort of waltz past him, which was ok. Better skipped over then pummelled right?

Brown eyes? Billy looked at the brunette, his eyes very wide and sligtly confused. Did he actually just invite him to come sit with him? Seriously? Billy had recently just managed to land a seat at the science geeks table - it unfortunately was in close proxmity to the jocks and cheerleaders section, but beggers can't be chooses. But still, how that seating arrange had come to be was nothing short of a complete mystery to Billy.

He turned to look back at the offerings. As it had been suggested he avoid the meatloaf, Billy was know faced with options. He wasn't used to options in the lunch line, he was more of the grab and dash type.

Then came a what? Was someone actually bellowing at him? Seriously? Who on Earth bellows in the lunch line? Turning, Billy saw the wall and shook his head. A mountain had just walked into him, and it seemed the 'wall' for this morning was closing in on him. "Just go around, jeeze.... " Billy said with a exaggerated roll of his eyes.

Mimic » Calvin paid for his lunch and thanked his foster parents for giving him a generous allowance. He was thinking of coming out to them because they seemed so nice. The Cassidy's were a nice couple. She was a doctor and he worked for some institute up north in Salem County. They were away lecturing and doing work for the school so Calvin had the house to himself a lot and saw them mostly on the weekends. They trusted him not to wreck the house and he appreciated them not hovering over him since he was pretty mature. He remembered them when he was 13 and they had been taken care of him for four years. He looked around and it was chaos trying to find a space to sit. He wanted to sit with the football players but he had not made the team yet so he opted to sit next to them and luckily there were three seats left in a table across from them. He hated eating in 1st phase because they tried to get the most kids into the first phase of lunch. He noticed the new guy and waved over to him to sit with him.

Mama Moira always said to be friendly and courteous. She was Scottish and her accent was thick but he did an impression of her that his dad Sean said was dead to rights and never to do it in front of her or he would get a spoon to the head at dinner.

"Hey, new kid sit with me...I'm Calvin...he yelled to Teddy and he waved over to Billy to give him the last seat. He remembered last yeat that Billy was teased lot because he was gay or just a nerd or maybe both and he thought to shield him from being taunted this year. He was secretly gay and thought if he could make it easier on Billy he could some how bear the weight of being in the closet.

"If you don't take them it will be standing room only guys..." Cal said to the new kid and Billy.

Chimaera » "Oh," Teddy let his face fake surprise, "were you going to bring me meatloaf, then? You're standing in front of it, so if I go around..." he shrugged.

"Besides," he looked around Billy, "you'd better hurry along yourself if you're gonna catch up with your friend. Wouldn't want you to waste your time insulting a...what was it?...a self-centered egghead? like me."

Teddy turned to accept a plate from the lady behind the line who was trying very hard to look like she wasn't listening to them. He smiled and nodded as he balanced the plate on a free corner of his tray.

"Looks good," he gave it a sniff before turning back to Billy and smiling neutrally.

Wiccan » Bring the blonde some meatloaf? On Billy so wouldn't have minded taking a thick juicy piece and smushing it in the concieted jerks face, but if he did that, there was every chance he just might use Billy like a toothpick to pick whatever was left of Billy after he smushed him for having dared to try to smoosh anything against the blonde's kisser. Billy opted to go with a polite, but slightly passive agressive roll of his eyes. He also thought the word jerk really, really loud; If there was a telepath near by, they were likely annoyed with Billy at that very moment.

Billy's eyes narrowed slightly in response to the jerk's attempt at being clever. Obivious wannabe Seinfeld, probably has no idea the world has moved on from that narcissists mediocre. Billy was half tempted to pick up his plate and face it towards the jock and say something like 'Hey look, your reflection, isn't it pretty?' and then throw the plate as he said the word 'fetch'. And he might have done that too, but Billy was smart enough to grasp the initial flaw of such a plan. The jock would return with the plate and probably force it down his throat. Not doing that was pure 'Survive Bullying 101'.

"I'll have what he's having Gladys", Billy said as he turned to exchange neutral smiles with the blond.

He then turned toward where Calvin was calling with a slight look of amazement.

Calvin called from the forbidden zone, jock central. The place only people like the Student Council, the Cheerleaders, Color Guard, and various athletic teams sat. Billy wondered if this was some sort of trick. He looked at his tray and wished he'd not ordered the meatloaf. Meatloaf could be very messy.

With a deep sigh, he decided to sally forth. Worst comes to worse, he could try out his knew kicks and see if just how many jocks he could outrun if any. Thank god the members of Track weren't considered to be cool enough to sit with the reast of the neanderthals.

Mass » Jack was pretty damn good on a skateboard, the way he dodged around students and the view of teachers as he made his way to the lunch line only proved so. Not even bothering to start at the back, he cut right in. A rather big girl grumbled as she yelled 'HEY!" and gave the youngest powers boy a feisty look.

She was definitely hangry.

Jack offered her his signature smirk, "Sorry Holly, I'll be quick?just came to see one of my many favorite lunch ladies" he then turned to one of the many lunch ladies behind the counter, his smirk turning into a smile. He was to busy with his own agenda to even notice that Holly had forgotten all about him cutting, 'Jackson Powers knows my name,' she turned a dark shade of red, she said to her friend behind her as she was about to piss her pants, if she hadn't already, and faint.

"Hey Nelly, hows Whiskers. I hope the little fur ball is alright." The woman needed with a smirk, as she rambled on about her many cats. "Glad to hear he's okay, I have something for you? " he said reaching into his backpack, he pulled out a pin with a cute little cat on it. The women smiled as she almost teared up, turning around she made her way to the freezer and pulled out a few of the cookie ice cream sandwiches that were on next Fridays dess?rt menu. "Aww, ya didn't have to. You're are to sweet." Looking down the way, he waived at another lunch lady. "Hi Gladys, looking lovely today" he waived before he then looked to Holly once more, "thanks again cuttie," he said handing her one of the desserts. Little did she know Gladys would have her pay for all of them, though with the butterlys surrounding the big girl she wouldn't care.

Rolling off again, he rode past Billy, smiling at him as he did, he gave the guy a wink. Making his way past the cheerleaders and jocks, he smiled. One of the cheerleaders calling out after to sit with them. "Not today, maybe tomorrow, okay...Bye Felicia!" No pun intended there, or maybe there was, but that was seriously her name.

He eyed Teddy as he rode past, giving him a smile of his own, he made it to Calvins table before anyone else did. Jack didn't steal one of the three seats though, one taken by Calvin, the other two empty, and the rest pulled to other tables.

"Sup dude," he smiled at Calvin before he hopped up on the table next to him. "Dessert??" He said tossing down one of the three ice cream cookies he had left.

Jack was pretty well known around school, as were his siblings. While he played Baseball and Soccer, and got rather good grades, where he differed from his siblings was with his humor. He was quiet the class clown, known for his jokes and antics, according to some Teachers he sometimes was to much. He even was a bit of a bully sometimes? though he was a bully of a different kind as he only picked on those who liked to pick on others?yet, he was an all around nice guy and though he liked to play dumb, he was pretty wise for a sophomore. He also seemed to know everyone's name. "How are you Calvin??" He said, taking a bite of his own ice cream cookie now. A, little bite of the white goo smeared on his upper lip, but he quickly licked it off as he looked at the muscular boy in the eyes.
