Scott Summers is an athletic man, his body's musculature well defined. He holds himself with confidence and control at all times, giving off the appearance of a born leader. Scott appears to be looking 'through' you but that is likely an illusion caused by his everpresent ruby quartz glasses. That, and his typical stoicism. He rarely smiles, and though he has been known to play a joke or two, Scott tends to be reserved. Going along with his 'boy scout' attitude (as Logan puts it), Scott tends towards polo shirts, Dockers, and loafers. If he's working on his bike or the Blackbird, he will wear denim jeans and a t-shirt (usually an Xavier Institute T). Sweats are reserved for the gym.

Despite our differences over the years, we shared one thing in common: we were there... For all of it. We lost friends. Buried sons. But we never stopped... Until I broke things. I broke her trust. I broke our team. I broke his faith. I've broken everythi

Paragon - Stick to his code to provide an example to the rest.

Scott is an emotionally invested born leader, who allows himself to lead from the front, teach others life skills, and defend the human and mutant race alike from the likes of the Brotherhood, Marauders and others who wish harm on the Earth. Scott has a strained relationship with his brothers resenting them both for having been adopted when he was not. Scott is passionate about everything. Never unable to see the positive in a situation, but not necessarily willing to admit that to others around him. His passion allows him to act with bold heroism, but his demenor prevents him from expressing his true inclinations. His life blood is the X-men, it is the one single vision that Professor Xavier has thrust upon him... and he will defend them at all costs.

Power Description:

Optic Blast - Cyclops has the ability to release powerful energy blasts from his eyes. However, these blasts are uncontrollable and continuous, as they are constantly firing from his eyes whenever they are opened. He wears special glasses or a visor made with ruby quartz to prevent himself from accidentally causing unintentional destruction. The beams are capable of blasting through steel, concrete, and wood, as well as to send targets flying backwards. He can change the intensity of the beam with a dial on the visors, making it large enough to blow open a thick steel door or small enough to break hardened slime off Jean Grey's face without hurting her. The visor is also able to restrain the blast's full power, allowing a hit from it being enough to simply knock out an opponent rather than hitting with explosive power. When he was being attacked by Sabertooth as a teen, he was able to blow through three floors of the school, also leaving a trail of flames indicating that there may be some heat, or at least extreme friction, in the beams. This could be also a mistake, as even authors of comics sometimes forget about how Scott's power actually works. In a deleted scene Jean mentions that Scott could punch a hole in a mountain with his power if he tried.

ADMINISTRATION/TEACHING - Cyclops has become quite good at keeping things organized and coordinated, keeping track of the various aspects of an organization and making sure no one goes neglected, and keeping things documented in case the need arises to go back and check over something. At the same time, he is very good at imparting his knowledge to others.

ATHLETICS - Cyclops is a skilled athlete.

BLUFFING - Cyclops has a built in 'poker face'. COMBAT STYLE (Martial Arts/blind fighting) - Cyclops can use his Agility instead of Strength to attack. He can also reduce the difficulty to reduce damage from falling. If he doesn't attack, he can reduce the difficulty rating to catch any thrown object he can lift, negating impact damage. Additionally, for every post which states he is studying a target, he can increase his dexterity rank for said attack by +1 (+1R to Dex, +R per Declared round of observation on a specific target). Cyclops can counterattack with no negative modifiers for being unable to see opponent, provided they attack him first.

COMBAT (Hand-to-Hand) - While living in the X-Mansion for so many years, Scott has learned several forms of martial arts. He is able to take down several trained guards with ease. He was even able to hold his own against Lady Deathstrike but was quickly defeated.

DRIVING/PILOTING - Cyclops can handle pretty much and land or air vehicle, from a motorcycle to an eighteen-wheeler (on the ground) to conventional aircraft up to the Blackbird (in the air). He can even handle extra-terrestrial craft (should one show up) and puzzle out how to fly it.

ESPIONAGE - Cyclops has an eye for detail and can usually notice if someone (or something) is out of place.

FIRST AID - Cyclops can patch someone up in the field, helping restore consciousness or minimizing a life threatening injury.

LEADERSHIP - Cyclops is a natural leader, able to keep a team together and focused on goals.

MATHEMATICS - Specifically spatial geometry, though Cyclops was a gifted mathematician even before earning his degree.

MECHANICS/REPAIR - Scott is capable of repairing/modifying equipment and machinery that he has some familiarity with. This includes the Blackbird and most of the equipment at the Xavier Institute.

PILOT (Vehicles/Jets) - Cyclops is a skilled pilot the equal of nearly any on the planet.

STREETWISE - Cyclops can handle himself on the streets, managing to blend in when necessary and obtain needed information from street level contacts and others.

WEAPONS - Cyclops is versed in the weapons of martial arts - clubs, staves, etc. He also practices regularly woth firearms, and is a fair shot with a pistol.

SPATIAL AWARENESS - Cyclops seems to possess an uncanny sense of spatial geometry, in this sense used to describe his observation of objects around himself and the angles found between surfaces of these objects. Cyclops has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to cause his optic blasts to ricochet and/or reflect off those objects in a trajectory to his liking. This is commonly called a "banked shot" when applied to this talent. Cyclops has been observed causing beams to reflect from over a dozen surfaces in the course of one blast, and still hit his intended target accurately. It is his sense of superhumanly enhanced spatial awareness that allows him to perform these feats as well.

EXPERT PILOT - Cyclops is an expert pilot of fixed-wing aircraft, a skill he appears to have inherited from his father. It has also been implied that his geometric sense improves his abilities in the air.

MASTER STRATEGIST/TACTICIAN - Cyclops has spent most of his life as the leader of the X-Men and has developed exceptional leadership skills. It is notable that regardless of their general attitude towards him, all of the X-Men tend to obey his orders in battle - because they know that he's usually right.

EMOTIONALLY TOUGH - Under the direction of Professor X's training and due in part to his own emotional stoicism, Cyclops has developed a degree of resistance to psychic probes, attacks, and manipulations. He is virtually immune to casual scans, and has shown an awareness during deeper psychic intrusions that makes him difficult to read, even for the psychics closest to him, notably Professor X and Jean Grey.

DISABILITY (Power Regulation) - Possibly because of a head injury suffered in his unorthodox landing, Scott was left unable to consciously control his powers - his optic beams are now constantly "on," and will project indefinitely when his eyes are open. This is explained differently in many stories; according to the original Uncanny X-Men portrayals, if Cyclops uses his powers for too long, he will become weak and run out of energy, using the Sun's energy to revitalize the beams once his visor is closed or his glasses are on. Scott is immune to the harmful effects of his own powers - the natural psionic field which surrounds his body safely absorbs the energy of his beams if they should come into contact with his body. Hence, he is able to block the beams simply by closing his eyes, with even the thin material of his eyelids being sufficient. To allow him to function in day-to-day life, Scott wears a set of eyeglasses made of ruby quartz, a material which is resonant to his psionic field, and hence blocks his beams in a similar fashion. In combat, Cyclops uses a specialized ruby quartz visor (built with a single, long lens, hence Summers' alias "Cyclops") housing adjustable apertures that allow him to control the size and intensity of the beams. Originally, Cyclops had to physically reach for controls on the visor itself for desired firings, but more recent models have controls wired to his gloves for more convenient use. In addition, the visor has a back-up spring-loaded function to shut its apertures in the event of a power loss while opened so he can at least see safely. Newest versions of the visor have been outfitted with various forms of acquired advanced technology, such as thought-controlled and neural-activated versions.

FLAWED (Genetic) - His brother Alex (Havok) is immune to his power. The opposite is true, although Havok's power can push Cyclops minimally due to the force of the attack, and vice versa.

Character History:

Cyclops (born: Scott Summers) is a mutant with the ability to fire an optic blast from his eyes. Having been one of the first members of the modern group of X-Men, Scott Summers was chosen to succeed his mentor and become the X-Men's field leader.

Scott Summers was the first of two sons born to Major Christopher Summers, a test pilot for the U.S. Air Force, and his wife Katherine. Christopher was flying his family home from vacation when their plane was attacked by a spacecraft from the interstellar Shi'ar Empire. To save their lives, Katherine pushed Scott and his brother Alex out of the plane with the only available parachute. Scott suffered a head injury upon landing, thus forever preventing him from controlling his mutant power by himself. With their parents presumed dead, the authorities separated the two boys.

Alex was adopted, but Scott remained comatose in a hospital for a year. On recovering, he was placed in an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska that was secretly controlled by his future enemy, the evil geneticist Mister Sinister. As a teenager, Scott came into the foster care of Jack Winters, a mutant criminal known as the Jack O'Diamonds. After Scott began to suffer from severe headaches he was sent to a specialist who discovered that lenses made of ruby quartz corrected the problem. Soon after, Scott's mutant power first erupted from his eyes as an uncontrollable blast of optic force. The blast demolished a crane, causing it to drop its payload toward a terrified crowd. Scott saved lives by obliterating the object with another blast, but the bystanders believed that he had tried to kill them and rallied into an angry mob. Scott fled, escaping on a freight train. Winters sought to use Scott's newfound talent in his crimes, and physically abused the young boy when he initially refused. However, Scott's display of power had attracted the attention of the mutant telepath Professor Charles Xavier, who teamed up with F.B.I. agent Fred Duncan in their mutual attempt to find Scott. Scott was rescued from Winters' clutches and was enlisted by Xavier as the first member of the X-Men, a team of young mutants who trained to use their powers in the fight for human/mutant equality.

As Cyclops, Scott became deputy leader of the X-Men. While he was a skilled tactician, his social skills were lacking. Scott had fallen in love with his teammate Jean Grey, but his reserved demeanor prevented him from expressing his feelings for her for years. When Xavier's other original recruits left the fold following an encounter with the sentient island-being Krakoa, Cyclops stayed on as deputy leader of the new team. As leader Cyclops lead the New X-Men a series of consecutive successful missions, but ultimately suffered his greatest personal lose when the Inner Circle used Jean Grey's personal desires to corrupt the Phoenix force within her. This lose lead to Jean being judged by the Shi'ar Empire - their judgment rendered Jean powerless. Emotionally bereft, Cyclops utlimately resigned from the X-Men along with Jean Grey to start a life in Alaska.
